Welcome Parent of a Prospective Member!

On behalf of the Pi Kappa Alpha International Fraternity, officers, and staff, we want you to know that we value your son’s interest in joining our Fraternity. During this time, your son will be learning the values, history, and traditions of our organization before becoming an initiated brother. Your son’s decision to join PIKE is very important to us and as he learns more about us, we want to make sure that you are included on his journey.

Our Mission:

Pi Kappa Alpha is dedicated to developing men of integrity, intellect, and high moral character and to fostering a truly lifelong fraternal experience. Learn more about our Values.

When we were Founded: March 1, 1868 at the University of Virginia.

It all started in Room 47 West Range at the University of Virginia when Frederick Southgate Taylor turned to Littleton Waller Tazewell, his cousin and roommate, for help in starting a new fraternity. Discover more information on our History.

Nickname:

The Fraternity is referred to PIKE and members are known as "Pikes." There are more than 220 chapters/colonies across the United States & Canada and over 250,000 lifetime initiates & 14,000 undergraduate members

What is SLAG?

Our membership is composed of men that embody the acronym SLAG—Scholars, Leaders, Athletes, and Gentlemen.

How will this affect my son’s grades?

PIKE seeks men who make academics a top priority. To ensure our members are successful in the classroom, our chapters equip them with tools like mentor programs, study hours, and incentives to reward academic performance. Additionally, each member is required to maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA requirement.

Research shows that students involved in Greek life are significantly more likely to graduate compared to non-Greek students. Most of our chapters achieve an average GPA higher than that of the non-Greek male average GPA on their campuses. Additionally, research shows Greek students report having more experiential and deep learning in college than non-Greek students.

Education

Your son is invited to take advantage of our preeminent fraternity leadership and education program, PIKE University. This program is the aimed at fostering leadership, management and personal development skills in order to prepare your son for success. With 12 annual events held across the continent, and with over 3,000 participants - we build better Pikes and better chapters. For upcoming events and more information, check here.

Campus Involvement

Members are encouraged to participate in the ample community service and philanthropy opportunities presented by our chapters. Leadership positions within the chapter and on campus provide our members with the opportunity to learn how to communicate, engage, and lead a large group – all skills that will prepare them for their career after college. Additionally, intramural sports build teamwork skills fundamental to success in the business world, bolster unity within the chapter, contribute to the physical and mental health of our members, and improve the quality of the overall college experience.

We encourage all parents to be involved and ask questions. The Fraternity can be a tremendous growing experience for your son. In addition to our website and local chapter websites, Pi Kappa Alpha’s professional staff members (there are over 40 of us) are happy to answer any questions or concerns you may have.

Best regards,
