MEMPHIS, TN - Pi Kappa Alpha International Fraternity is pleased to announce Joe Kaltenthaler (Rose-Hulman, Iota Delta ’12) as the April 2016 Pike of the Month. Pike of the Month award recipients demonstrate the True Pike ideals, working to improve themselves and have a positive impact on their chapters, campuses and communities.

Kaltenthaler, a senior at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, was nominated by his chapter president, David Reamer ’14 for the positive impact he has made on his chapter and community.

Since joining Iota Delta Chapter, Kaltenthaler has successfully balanced Fraternity life with community service and academics, while maintaining a 3.85 GPA as a mechanical engineering major. Within the chapter, Kaltenthaler served as community service chairman and president.

Through his leadership, Iota Delta re-vamped its community service program, which is now one of the chapter’s strongest attributes. The program went on to set a record for the number of service hours ever recorded. Under his leadership, Iota Delta won its first Smythe Award in six years, the most prestigious award a PIKE chapter can win.

Additionally, Kaltenthaler played a substantial role in bolstering chapter morale. He organized two of the largest retreats in chapter history and competed for almost every intramural team, leading the chapter to an overall intramural victory each year.

Outside of the chapter, Kaltenthaler is the president of a faith-based non-profit group, Five Loaves Two Fish, which is responsible for building schools and micro-businesses in impoverished areas of India. He was also one of the event planners behind Help-Portrait: Terre Haute, which enabled low-income families to have high-quality family photos taken for free during the holiday season. Upon graduation, Kaltenthaler accepted a position at KSM Consulting in Indianapolis, Indiana, and eventually plans on returning to school to earn his MBA.

In response to his award, Kaltenthaler says, “I came to school with no intention of joining a Greek organization and ended up as chapter president, which speaks volumes about the positive impact that joining a fraternity can provide. It means the world to me to have been in a position to better myself and lead my brothers to better themselves. I am humbled to represent Iota Delta and am very grateful for being nominated by a chapter that has given me so much.”

The Pike of the Month is selected from over 17,000 undergraduates and highlights members nominated by their brothers for living the ideals of the True Pike.
