MEMPHIS, TN - The Pi Kappa Alpha International Fraternity awarded the Chapter Advisor of the Year Award to Jerome “Jerry” Penner, III (Murray State, Epsilon Lambda ’79) at the 2017 Academy in Memphis, Tennessee. The Chapter Advisor of the Year Award is presented annually to one Fraternity volunteer who has been nominated by his peers and undergraduates as the top advisor to a collegiate chapter.
As chapter advisor, Penner serves as a direct resource to the chapter president and mentor to chapter members. He maintains communication with other volunteers and the International Fraternity. Penner has been volunteering for Epsilon Lambda Chapter for seven years and has been the accredited chapter advisor since 2013.
In addition to serving on the alumni advisory board, Penner also serves roles with the alumni association and the house corporation as president and secretary, respectively. Penner continuously goes above and beyond the role of an advisor by mentoring the undergraduate men both professionally and personally. Penner routinely connects members with community leaders and brings in prominent alumni to speak to the chapter.
“Overall, Jerry is an extremely active advisor and we greatly appreciate his support to our chapter,” said Pi Kappa Alpha Undergraduate Vice President D. Craig Lamb (Murray State, Epsilon Lambda ’14). “We are able to foster better men because of the direct impact Jerry makes on our chapter. Jerry is an exemplary role model to our members and to the greater Murray community.”
In his personal life, Penner is the CEO of a regional hospital in Murray, Kentucky, and served in the United States Army for 29 years.
The Pi Kappa Alpha International Fraternity is proud to honor Brother Penner with the 2017 Chapter Advisor of the Year Award.
